First Venda Language Film

Elelwani is the first Venda language film!! It is written and directed by Ntshavheni wa Luruli and tells the story of a young woman who has to negotiate the tension between her Venda traditions and her modern aspirations.

This film offers important insight into Venda culture, reflecting the myths, legends and taboos of not just the cultural beliefs but the challenge of incorporating contemporary South African aspirations with deep-rooted ritualistic cultural practices.
